As the Omicron variant continues to surge in more densely populated areas across the world, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs is warning that “this wave will be different.”
On Thursday, Mississippi’s highest-ranking health official sent out a tweet urging people to get their booster shot as he’s seeing a rapid increase in COVID-related emergency room visits.

He also wrote that most monoclonal treatments are ineffective versus the Omicron variant. According to an article from PBS, which Dobbs included in the thread, Regeneron and Eli Lilly “are unlikely to work against the new strain.”
The Mississippi State Department of Health will resume releasing COVID-19 data on December 27.
