An electronic threat was made against Northwest Rankin High School on Wednesday, causing law enforcement to respond to the educational facility. A day later, authorities discovered the threat came from a minor several states away.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Department officials say they were notified shortly after the threat was made. In coordination with the school district, deputies investigated the incident and placed the school under controlled movement.

No evidence to corroborate the threat was found at the school.
“In incidents such as this our top priority is the safety of our students and staff,” a statement from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department reads. “The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate leads to identify the suspect who made the terroristic threat.”
Thursday, officials reported that an investigation into the threat uncovered that a juvenile made the threat from Savannah, Georgia. The suspect admitted to making the threat during an interview with law enforcement, saying he was attempting to disrupt operations at the school. The minor reportedly has ties to Rankin County.
Law enforcement notified the Rankin County Youth Court, who will consult with authorities in Georgia to hold the juvenile suspect responsible for their actions.
Wednesday’s threat came less than two months after a separate threat of violence against Northwest Rankin High School.
