An investigation is underway after a shooting in Perkinston resulted in two people dead and one sheriff’s deputy injured.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, a deputy with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a domestic violence call at a Dollar General on U.S. 49 just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. When he arrived, the suspect – now identified as Perry L. Stephens, Jr., 52, of Benndale – shot the deputy in the arm to which the deputy fired back. A “brief round of gunfire” then ensued, per the news release.
Stephens is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A woman by the name of Kimberly D. Kennedy was also found dead at the scene. The 44-year-old from Pass Christian’s death is believed to be connected to Stephens, the release continued.
