Delta State’s Malik Jones has been named a Division II All-American by the Associated Press.
Jones was featured as a second-team defensive back on the list released Wednesday. The Copiah-Lincoln Community College product had 23 tackles (15 solo), nine pass breakups, and five interceptions in his second and final season with the Statesmen.
Jones announced on social media last week that he is declaring for the NFL Draft in hopes of being the first Mississippi Division II player selected since Anthony Maddox in 2004.

The All-American nod is the latest accolade for Jones who was a first-team All-Gulf South Conference selection during both of his seasons in Cleveland. He also helped the Statesmen to back-to-back Division II playoff appearances.
