A pair of Delta State football players have been recognized as top players in their conference after a blowout victory during the annual “Pig Pickin'” game on Saturday.
Senior quarterback Cole Kirk, in his pursuit to adequately pick up where Patrick Shegog left off, had a career performance in the No. 17 Statesmen’s 55-18 romp over Missouri S&T, earning him the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Offensive Player of the Week honor.
The signal caller notched 301 yards through the air and added 115 more on the ground for a combined 416 total yards of offense. In the process, he also tallied six total touchdowns – four passing and two rushing – while completing 76% of his passes.

Hudson played an integral role in keeping Missouri S&T scoreless in the second half of Saturday’s contest.
Delta State will return to action on the road this weekend when the Statesmen take on Wingate University in North Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
