Mississippi found its way to Sunday night’s Grammy Awards.
Tennessee State University’s Aristocrat of Bands won the Best Roots Gospel Album award for its album, “The Urban Hymnal.” However, the band’s accomplishment would not have been possible without the help of Grenada native Audrianna Johnson.
Johnson, a Delta State alumna and Delta Music Institute All-Star, is now the Head of A&R at Tymple, a Christian-based music production entity. As Tymple’s lead recording engineer, Johnson was able to record and modify the Grammy-winning album.
Richard Tremmel, Director of Delta State’s DMI Entertainment Industry Studies, worked closely with Johnson during her time in Cleveland. He said the former DSU student is a well-deserved recipient of the honor.
“I had the opportunity to watch her grow as a student and later as a valued employee of the entertainment industry studies department,” Tremmel told SuperTalk Mississippi News. “I am thrilled for her success. It serves as a great inspiration to our current students that someone from the DMI Entertainment Industry Studies program has received such an honor.”
Tremmel hopes that Johnson’s success will encourage those interested in pursuing a future in music to consider enrolling at Delta State to be a part of the DMI program. He also looks forward to seeing the accomplished former student return to DSU for visits.
“We hope that it will motivate other potential students to come study our DMI faculty at Delta State University to learn more about the entertainment industry. Audri has promised that she will continue to visit often and serve as a resource for our students,” Tremmel added.
