A north Mississippi man is facing a capital murder charge in connection to the death of an infant.
Matthew Brown was taken into custody by deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday following an investigation into a male infant who had passed away after being hospitalized.
On Monday, March 22, police responded to a call at County Road 520 regarding an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, first responders immediately initiated life-saving measures. The child was swiftly transported to Baptist Hospital in Oxford for further medical attention, later being transferred to Le Bonheur’s Children Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where he ultimately passed away.
The LCSO promptly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Findings from the investigation led authorities to arrest Brown.
“Our hearts go out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” Lafayette County Sheriff Joey East said. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case and will continue to work tirelessly to bring closure to the family.”
