The death of an inmate in Chickasaw County is under investigation.
First reported by WTVA, an inmate identified as Adrian Shoemaker was found dead in his jail cell Monday morning.
According to Sheriff Jim Meyers, a jailer found Shoemaker in his cell with something tied around his neck. Staff at the facility performed life-saving measures, including CPR.
However, the inmate, who had been locked up on drug charges, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now looking into Shoemaker’s death. An autopsy will reveal whether he died by suicide or other causes.
