An early-morning wreck on I-20 in Pearl tied up traffic for hours Wednesday.
According to MDOT, the wreck happened on a stretch of interstate near Airport Road that was undergoing two overlay updates.
The projects are contracted by MDOT, but the wreck happened between two contractor vehicles.
An 18-wheeler, carrying asphalt for APAC paving contractors, collided with a pavement marker vehicle operated by AKCA, a Florida road marker contractor. No MDOT employees were involved or injured.
According to the Pearl Police Department, the wreck happened around 3 o’clock; the cleanup taking over 6 hours to complete.
Pearl Police are also confirming one death in the wreck: 65 year-old Joseph Lee of Conehatta, the driver of the 18-wheeler.
