Deadly DUI Wreck Returns to Prison Sex Criminal

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – A convicted sex offender has been sent back to jail for driving drunk and causing an accident that left one child dead and two others hurt.

Edward Sullivan, 55, of Bolton, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of DUI death and two counts of DUI mayhem.  He was sentenced to 50 years with 15 suspended and ordered to serve five years supervised probation after he’s released.

Sullivan’s ex-wife’s five grandchildren were traveling with him on September 1, 2013 when troopers said he pulled out in front of an 18-wheeler on Highway 49 in Rankin County, causing a crash.  Three of the children were taken to the hospital, where one eventually died.

“Sullivan was operating his vehicle at a time that his blood alcohol content was two to three times over the legal limit,” said Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest.  “Sullivan’s decision to drink and drive resulted in the death of a 10-year-old child.  This case highlights the importance in keeping those that would consume alcohol from getting behind the wheel of a car.”

Sullivan was previously convicted of gratification of lust and was in jail for seven years before being released on probation, just two months prior to that deadly accident.
