The Mississippi Development Authority has extended the deadline for Gulf Coast Restoration Fund grant applications to August 9.
In 2016, Mississippi reached a settlement with BP oil and gas company for $750 million over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which happened in 2010 and is considered one of the largest environmental disasters in world history. The state received an initial payment of $150 million and began receiving $40 million annually in 2019 with the payments set to go through 2033.
The funds are used to stimulate growth and economic development in the lower six counties of the state: Harrison, Hancock, Jackson, George, Stone, and Pearl River.
Those eligible to apply include local governments, nongovernmental organizations, colleges and universities, community colleges, ports, airports, public-private partnerships, private entities, nonprofit groups, and local development groups.
The application web portal can be found here. For more information, interested individuals can contact Sarah Wright of the MDA at (601)359-2058. The original deadline for grant applications was July 31.
