Legislators did not meet for the second day of the 2024 legislative session this morning following reports of a bomb threat at the Mississippi State Capitol.
Officers with Capitol Police roped off all entrances and blocked all roads and sidewalks within one block of the building after authorities were notified of the threat around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Mississippi was included with four other state capitols that received a bomb threat today, including Kentucky, Michigan, Georgia, and Connecticut.
At this time, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety has given the all-clear for the threat as “no explosives or suspicious equipment were found.” The threat is currently under investigation.
Today a bomb threat was made against our Mississippi Capitol building. Thankfully, the situation is clear.
I’m incredibly thankful to the Capitol Police and all the Mississippi law enforcement officers who immediately responded to the incident.

The threat joins a string of false reports of bombs that have been made to numerous airports and Jewish synagogues across the state, with the most recent emailed threat being sent to the Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson on December 18, 2023.
Just a few days prior, another Jewish temple in Mississippi was the recipient of a bomb threat, with law enforcement confirming that the Temple B’nai Israel in Columbus and Tupelo was emailed a threat on December 14.
A handful of airports across the state were also sent a similar threat over email that same day. The airports included the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport, Tupelo Regional, Gulfport-Biloxi International, Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional, and Stennis International.
