JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi has a constitutional amendment that rules out gay marriage. That may be why John Stewart’s Daily Show went to Mississippi expecting to see their phony gay couple treated bad, but that was not the case.
The satirical Daily Show report was made in response to a prediction made by Nate Silver, who is famous for his election and sports statistics. Silver said Mississippi and Alabama would most likely be the last two states to approve a bill allowing gay marriage, even though Silver has never been to either state.
In Mississippi the show’s gay couple visited some places you might find familiar: Bass Pro Shop, the State Fair, and a Waffle House. At one point the couple even got an applause.
