A man is behind bars after a standoff with central Mississippi police.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to a home on Sundance Circle in Richland on Tuesday to serve an arrest warrant on 24-year-old James Martin. The suspect was wanted on cyberstalking charges.

Police report that Martin did not comply with verbal commands from deputies and proceeded to threaten to use firearms he allegedly possessed while simultaneously barricading himself inside the residence.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, the Richland Police Department’s Special Response Team, and crisis negotiators responded to the location to assist law enforcement at the scene.

Attempts were then made to contact Martin by phone. To the avail of police, Martin finally surrendered to officers around 11 a.m. and was taken into custody. He is being housed in the Rankin County jail. More charges are expected against the suspect as a result of the standoff.
