D’IBERVILLE, Miss.- Imagine being out with your friend, mom, or spouse and they instantly drop to the floor from a heart attack. That’s when knowing CPR can come in handy and why D’Iberville High School wanted to add it to their curriculum.
Every student that takes a health class there will learn how to do CPR and use an AED with help from American Medical Response (AMR) and the D’Iberville Fire Department.
School administrators told WLOX they started the program to support the American Heart Association. The organization is trying to urge state lawmakers to pass a House bill that would require CPR training before students graduate.
The school also had an incident where a football player collapsed during one of the games against D’Iberville High. One of the coaches used his CPR knowledge to revive the young athlete.
The students can become CPR certified if they pass the exam and finish the three day course.
