Friday may have kicked off a long Fourth of July weekend, but the threat and the impact of COVID-19 did not take a break.
The three day total of new coronavirus cases, including Friday (914), Saturday (990), and Sunday (226) equals 2,130, bringing the state’s total number of cases, since March 11th, to 30,900. Sadly, over the three day weekend, 25 more souls were lost to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in Mississippi to 1,111.
The 18 to 29-year-old age group is seeing the highest number of confirmed cases.
On Sunday, Speaker of House Philip Gunn confirmed he tested positive after being in close proximity to another member of the House who also tested positive for Coronavirus. You can hear Speaker Gunn’s full remarks below.
The Mississippi State Department of Health will release new data on the spread of the virus in the state later today.
