The head of security at a Mississippi prison has been arrested after allegedly sneaking contraband to an inmate.
According to a release this week from the Winston County Sheriff’s Department, 35-year-old Nikita Carter was taken into custody and was accused of sneaking a cell phone, marijuana, and non-jail food into the Winston-Choctaw Regional Correctional Facility. Carter was subsequently charged with 12 counts of furnishing contraband to a prisoner.
In a Thursday evening report, Sheriff Mike Perkins told WCBI that Carter admitted to the crimes with each count carrying a three-year maximum, meaning she could be sentenced to up to 36 years behind bars.
Perkins also revealed the name of the inmate, James Robinson, who was receiving the contraband from Parker and is now facing additional charges for his role in the situation. Robinson has since been moved to an undisclosed jail.
Parker had her bond set at $60,000. Perkins added during his conversation with the TV station that Terrence Watt, the warden of Winston-Choctaw Regional Correctional Facility, has been placed on administrative leave, with the sheriff saying: “It was brought to his attention a long time ago about things going on that I thought weren’t right, and they haven’t been corrected.”
