CORINTH, Miss.–Rape of a woman in a Corinth park is the charge against Garnett Denzell Hughes, 25, of Belzoni. He’s been in jail in Corinth since August, accused of other crimes, and now police say they have enough evidence to add this one to the list.
Police told WCBI TV that the rape happened Aug. 15 at Crossroads Regional Park. Hughes was arrested on charges of burglary, robbery, kidnapping, and sexual battery Aug. 25 in a different set of incidences he was set to go on trial in April on those charges.
Hughes is also being charged with armed robbery and kidnapping in the Aug. 15 incident at the park.
Police didn’t say what Hughes connection to Corinth was. Alcorn County is in the very northeast corner of Mississippi, while Belzoni is in Humphreys County in the southern Delta.
