The “Rooster Run” is quickly becoming a one-of-a-kind event that draws large crowds, politicians on the campaign trail and a giant rooster.
Everyone will be there. Even President Trump got an invite.
Every June on the third Saturday, for the past several years, Corinth, Mississippi has a race for many charitable causes called the Rooster Run. There is live music, barbecue, a 5k race, vendors, a motorcycle ride, a chicken grilling contest, and many other activities on Saturday. All the money raised will go to the Corinth American Legion Auxiliary and the veterans of Alcorn County. The large Roy the Rooster statue has brought the community together ever since it was moved to Corinth. It used to be located along U.S. Highway 72 in Marshall County, but a Facebook campaign was started to raise money to buy it and bring it to Corinth. People who donated $1 or more had their names put on the plaque by Roy the Rooster. When Roy arrived, there was a large homecoming celebration with more than 600 people.
Now, Roy, the Rooster brings people together each year for a different good cause. There is a 5k race that starts around 7 A.M. There is a chicken grilling competition that is for backyard grills, not big ribs. There is also a motorcycle ride that will start around 9:30 A.M. All of these activities cost $25 and includes a T-Shirt. There will also be Country/Bluegrass music playing during the event.
