A manhunt for an escaped Mississippi inmate has been called off after the subject was taken into custody Wednesday morning.
Drew Johnson, 33, escaped from the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. He was captured near the prison, according to an announcement by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Johnson was sentenced to life in prison in February 2022 for a murder in Rankin County. He is expected to face additional charges for the jailbreak.
