PANOLA COUNTY, Miss. –A Panola County teenager is believed to have told police, before taking her last breath, who poured lighter fluid over her and set her on fire.
Jessica Chambers, 19, was found Saturday night after someone reported a burning car. She was rushed to a Memphis hospital where she later died. Her father, Ben Chambers, said investigators would not say exactly what his daughter said. But he said she was able to provide information that could help find her killer. Chambers said his daughter had been hit over the head and lighter fluid was poured down her throat and nose. An autopsy was done Monday. It indicated she died from severe burns that covered 98 percent of her body.
Lisa Chambers, Jessica’s mother, said her daughter did not have a boyfriend and had left home to wash her car and get something to eat the night she was killed.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Panola County Sheriff’s Department are checking phone records and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information that could help is asked to call police.
Jessica Chambers will be buried Saturday after a 2 p-m service at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS.
