WASHINGTON, D.C.–The House Committee on Homeland Security will continue to have Mississippi’s Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-2nd District) as its ranking Democrat. Thompson was reappointed by the House Democratic Caucus Friday to serve in the 114th Congress.
Thompson said in a statement that he is honored to have been chosen and that he will seek “common sense solutions” to national security problems.
“As we move into a new Congress, I plan to work closely with Pres. Obama and Congressional leaders to fix our immigration system and continue to secure our borders,” he said. “I am pleased by the progress this Committee has made, but there is still work to be done.”
Thompson said he believes that working in a bipartisan manner is the way to “effectively oversee the Dept. of Homeland Security” and ensure the nation’s safety.
