A Columbus city councilman was arrested over the weekend in Alabama.
According to police records, law enforcement in Gordo, which is right across the state line, booked Pierre Beard Friday night at 8:50 p.m.
Beard was later charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and illegal alcohol.
The Ward 4 councilman’s bond was set at $2,350.
This marks Beard’s second incident with law enforcement this year after being allegedly involved in an armed robbery at a local Waffle House in June.
Police released that Beard was outside the restaurant and seen interacting with the culprit on June 25 when two people were robbed at gunpoint.
Quavis Shawnterris Betts, 28, was later arrested at La Quinta Inn across the street, allegedly trying to enter a hotel room booked under Beard’s name. Betts was charged with two counts of armed robbery.
In November 2021, Beard was also facing misdemeanor domestic violence charges after a gunshot was fired in his backyard following an argument with his wife. The charges were dismissed after the victim did not appear in court in February 2022.
Beard has been serving on the city council since September 2019 with his current term set to end in 2025.
