The cost to go to college at a Mississippi public university is going up.
Thursday, the College Board voted to increase tuitions by an average of 6.6 percent starting next fall. They said the increase was due to state budget cuts.
For full-time students, the statewide average for two semesters at one of the state’s public universities will increase anywhere from close to $500 to $7,500. These escalations come atop the scheduled 3.8 percent increase which was previously approved last fall.
The school with the biggest hike in tuition is Mississippi University for Women with an increase of 9.1 percent.
