JACKSON, Miss. – Some of Mississippi’s public universities may soon start asking students to pay more than just tuition and housing.
The State College Board Wednesday approved four schools charging activities fees as early as this fall. Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi wants $5 a semester ; for Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State Universities it’s $10 per semester.
Board members also gave final approval for Delta State University to begin charging a $50-a semester facilities fee, which was agreed to earlier for Mississippi University for Women, Mississippi State University and Ole Miss. Delta State plans to spend the money on renovations and upgrades.
Collecting the tab for facilities started in the fall of 2013. The activities fees must be approved again before taking effect.
