JACKSON, Miss.–A rerun from last week? Cold air is headed back into Mississippi after a warm-up that includes 70s for highs everywhere in the state Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon a cold front is coming and it could mean snow and ice in the state again.
“A strong cold front is gonna push southward and bring some cold air and a risk for getting some wintry precipitation as well,” said Eric Carpenter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“We’re confident that north Mississippi is gonna get some ice and snow as we go into Wednesday and Wednesday night.”
Carpenter said whether icing happens in the central part of the state depends on if the cold air gets to Mississippi before the precipitation moves out. He said that he does not believe there will be much of a risk for any severe thunderstorms.
The cold air will be stubborn.
“It will warm up some as we go into the weekend. It’s gonna take a little while to get rid of this cold air.”
