Coastal Mississippi is once again being recognized for its appeal and charm by one of the most popular lifestyle magazines.
Southern Living has placed the area among nine other locations deemed to be the most underrated destinations in the American South. The beaches on the coast as well as the eclectic atmospheres seen in cities such as Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, and Ocean Springs were the motive behind placing Mississippi on the map of hidden gems.
“If Florida’s coast is the height of desire for beach vacations (with coastal destinations in the Carolinas, Alabama, and Georgia following somewhere behind), then Mississippi’s coast might be even more of a distant thought. But for those in on the secret, places like Ocean Springs, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis are hardly second fiddles,” the publication said about the Mississippi Coast.
“With 62 miles of scenic coastline, there’s plenty of room to spread out in the sand. But that’s far from all Coastal Mississippi has to offer. Each of its towns offers its own distinctive personality, from artsy, eclectic Ocean Springs to buzzy Gulfport.”
The magazine recently listed Gulfport as the No. 12 city on the rise for its ambiance, fresh seafood, entertainment events, and casinos.
