Hospital’s across the state are dealing with the surge in COVID cases, and nursing shortages. Singing River Health System on the coast is almost at capacity. In his latest update, CEO Lee Bonds reported 118 patients with COVID across their 3 hospitals. 38 are in ICU and 22 are on ventilators. The patients are getting younger. They’re treating a 14 year old.
Bond also pointed to a disturbing statistic. There are 2-thousand LESS nurses in Mississippi than there were a year ago. With $1.8-billion coming to the state from the federal government, Bonds is promising to lobby state lawmakers to use some of those funds to keep nurses in Mississippi.
