A brother-sister duo from Mississippi was sentenced Tuesday for their role in a murder-for-hire plot.

According to court documents and evidence introduced at trial, Joshua Druid Bryan, 29, and Regan Emily Bryan, 30, sought to hire a hitman to murder their stepfather in order to obtain life insurance proceeds. At the time of the plan, which law enforcement caught on to, the Bryans lived in Clinton.

Joshua was sentenced to 120 months in prison after previously being found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire. Regan was sentenced to 65 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire.

U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) made the announcement. The FBI and ATF investigated the case.
