WASHINGTON, D.C.– Mississippi lawmakers are pledging their support to a few of the presidential candidates as the campaigning heats up toward 2016.
Congressman Bennie Thompson has recently voiced his support for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, giving her extensive political background and familiarity with the White House, as her husband Bill Clinton was president.
As many as fifteen prominent Republican party leaders across Mississippi have expressed that Ohio governor John Kasich is their presidential pick. Senator Josh Harkins, Senator Brice Wiggins, Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert are just a few of those who call for Kasich.
Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Joe Nosef was at the first Republican debate. Nosef says of the political candidates, Bush, Christie, and Kasich, in his opinion, came out on top.
“And if people felt they couldn’t relate to Mitt Romney,” says Nosef, “Donald Trump is going to have the same problem.”
