CLARKSDALE, Miss. – A hit-and-run accident has taken the life of a 2-year-old Clarksdale girl.

Coahoma County’s coroner said Jamilya Benson died at the scene Sunday afternoon.  Family members said the toddler was outside when she noticed her grandmother on the opposite side of the street and ran towards her.  According to their versions of what happened, the driver of a truck swerved, but still hit Benson and kept driving.  Police eventually caught the suspect, a 22-year-old man, who’s name was not released.  They are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
