Natchez has welcomed its first-ever female police chief.
On Tuesday, the city’s Board of Aldermen voted to appoint Caroline “Cal” Green to the position she had held as an interim since former Police Chief Joseph Daughtry resigned and took the same post in Columbus.
Green began her initial stint with the Natchez Police Department in 1997, but left in 2004 to serve as a lieutenant with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 20 years. She returned to Natchez two years ago to work as the city’s first female commander.
As police chief, Green is looking to improve the police department in order to make Natchez a safer place for residents and visitors. She is also looking to refine the city’s neighborhood watches and to revitalize the citizen’s police academy.
