Police in Columbus are investigating a Christmas Eve shooting that left one dead and four injured.
The shooting occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. at a Christmas party on Luxapalila Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 48-year-old Algren Hampton dead inside the home. According to police, Hampton and a 22-year-old male – relation unknown at this time – got into an argument and that’s when the situation turned violent.
Others injured include a 56-year-old female and three males ages 22, 28, and 32. As of Sunday morning, the 22-year-old and the 38-year-old were in critical but stable condition, while the 45-year-old and 56-year-old were listed in stable condition.
“I can’t thank our Columbus Police Department officers, our detectives, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Baptist Memorial Hospital ambulance, and emergency room for their help,” incoming Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said. “I was able to see, myself, the true professionals we work with each day in Columbus. I am thankful for everyone’s assistance.”
Daughtry added that police have not yet made any arrests. However, they do have a person of interest.
