ESCATAWPA, Miss.- An 8-year-old Escatawpa girl is in critical condition after being shot in the throat.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell tells The Sun Herald they believe the shooting was due to an accidental discharge of the gun.
She was shot at her home Saturday and is being treated at the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.
Ezell says they are still investigating and that the shooting could be presented to a grand jury as a matter of concern without necessarily resulting in criminal charges.
