LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.–A child died Monday morning after being shot with a hunting rifle at his home in Lowndes County. The shooting happened about 8 Monday morning. Coroner Greg Merchant told media that 4-year-old Brayden Barksdale died at the home.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Dept. is investigating to find out exactly what happened. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday at the state crime lab.
Other than those facts, the sheriff’s dept. wasn’t saying much Monday.
WCBI reported that the child was being kept by Patrick Chambers, his mother’s boyfriend, who ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
The coroner said he was called out for an accidental shooting.
