CLAY COUNTY, Miss.–Charged with killing his own child, Charles Mullins, just 18, of Clay County, is still locked up and has not gotten bond. Sheriff Eddie Scott said in a statement that Mullins charges were upgraded from child abuse Tuesday.
“Mullins was arraigned in the Clay County Justice Court and no bond was set by statue due to the nature of the charge and is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Detention Center,” said a statement from the sheriff’s dept.
Mullins was charged with child abuse last week, one day after two-year-old Iriana Mullins was airlifted to UMMC. That was Oct. 8. Two days later she was taken off life support and died.
“The charge (of capital murder) stems from medical reports of blunt force trauma as the cause of death.”
Family members told media that the 16-year-old mom would go to school and that the father would look after the baby. Now the sheriff is encouraging anyone who knows anything else about the situation to contact his office.
