Presbyterian Christian School has landed a new head football coach after a month-long search.
On Friday, officials with the private school out of Hattiesburg announced that Richard Chambliss has been tabbed to be the Bobcats’ next frontman.
Chambliss, filling a role left vacant by Michael Brown, makes the move to PCS after spending the past three years as the offensive coordinator for nearby Columbia High School. Chambliss’ background is anticipated to aid PCS in its transition from the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools to a 3A club in the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
While leading the Wildcats’ offense, Chambliss amassed 31 total wins, helped lead the team to a state championship, and set a school record for points scored in a season. He also facilitated fundraising efforts, ticket sales, and college recruiting for the program.
“I am excited for PCS on their choice of Richard Chambliss as the next head football coach. Most importantly, Coach Chambliss is a high-character person that all parents will be excited to have their son play for,” former Columbia High School head coach Coach Chip Bilderback said.
“I have had the privilege of working with Coach Chambliss at Perry Central and Columbia High School, and he was instrumental in the success we had in those programs. Richard is smart, organized, and has one of the brightest offensive minds I have coached with. But I know his ability to motivate and lead young men will make him an outstanding head coach.”
Before his time in Columbia, Chambliss spent four seasons at Jones County Junior College, where he served as tight ends coach, special teams coordinator, and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure, the team won three South Division championships and achieved a state runner-up finish.
His special teams unit led the nation in blocked punts, and he played a significant role in football operations and managing the program’s social media presence.
Chambliss also served as offensive coordinator at Perry Central, where he helped the team secure its first playoff appearance in six years and its first 10-win season in over a decade. As a student at Southern Miss, he gained valuable experience as a student assistant, working on both sides of the ball.
“I am thrilled to be the next head football coach at PCS. My family and I align perfectly with the mission and vision of the school. We will be a program that is built on toughness, hard work, and commitment,” Chambliss said.
“This program will grow leaders on the field and in the community. I want to impact our students’ lives academically, athletically, and spiritually. We will win in every area of our lives and strive to be elite people. My family and I are excited to be Bobcats and look forward to getting to work immediately!”
PCS will face a new wave of opponents, mostly teams from public schools, next year.
