Recently, the Center for Disease Control released it’s annual statistics on sexually transmitted diseases throughout the entire United States.

The report shows results from 2016, ranking the states in order of who is spreading what STD more. The most commonly spread diseases in this year’s statistics are gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia. Mississippi ranked in the top 10 for each based on rates of infection per 100,000 people.

The report showed that Mississippi ranked number three for chlamydia, with over 20,000 reported cases last year; Number one for gonorrhea, with over 7,000 cases reported; Number seven for syphilis with over 300 cases.

Health care officials are concerned with these numbers and continue to teach safe sex practices, including abstinence. Other ways to protect yourself from STD’s include using condoms, limiting sexual partners, and agreeing on monogamy.
