Conference weekend No. 1 is in the books for all three major college baseball programs in Mississippi. Southern Miss got a Sun Belt series win, while Ole Miss and Mississippi State both lost series against tough SEC competition.
Below, you can find a quick recap of each team’s series, scores from each game, plus the biggest moments from the weekend that was on the diamond.
No. 13 Ole Miss vs. No. 3 Arkansas
Ole Miss (15-4, 1-2) couldn’t keep the momentum going after carrying a 13-game win streak into the week. A 14-5 midweek loss to South Alabama preceded the weekend series against the highly touted Hogs. After winning the opener convincingly on Friday, the Rebels came up short in the final pair.
Scores
- Game one: Ole Miss 10, Arkansas 6
- Game two: Arkansas 12, Ole Miss 3
- Game three: Arkansas 12, Ole Miss 9
Impact players
- RF Mitchell Sanford (5-for-11, 1 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB)
- 2B Luke Hill (4-for-12, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R)
- CF Isaac Humphrey (Friday: 3-for-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB)
- LHP Hunter Elliot (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K)
- RHP Alex Canney (2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3K, 0 BB)
Big moment
Mitchell Sanford was the gas in the tank of the Ole Miss lineup all weekend long, particularly in Friday’s win. He launched his third home run of his Ole Miss career in the series opener to give the Rebels some breathing room.

No. 22 Southern Miss vs. Old Dominion
While the Golden Eagles didn’t see a top 15 opponent like their in-state counterparts, they continued to take care of business. Southern Miss (14-6, 2-1) came up short of a Sun Belt sweep but continued a streak of weekend series wins to begin 2025.
Scores
- Game one: Southern Miss 11, Old Dominion 2
- Game two: Southern Miss 11, Old Dominion 4
- Game three: Southern Miss 1, Old Dominion 4
Impact players
- CF Jake Cook (7-for-14, 4 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI)
- C Tucker Stockman (5-for-10, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI)
- RHP JB Middleton (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 10 K, 0 BB)
- RHP Colby Allen (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 7 K, 1 BB)
Big moment
Southern Miss was sluggish through the first seven innings in Saturday’s late-night, weather-delayed game two against the Monarchs. After Colby Allen cruised through another scoreless inning, the bats woke up for the Golden Eagles to tally eight runs in the eighth inning, popping the cap off the game to clinch the series.

Mississippi State vs. No. 11 Texas
The Bulldogs’ first-ever SEC weekend matchup with the Texas Longhorns didn’t go to plan in a three-game sweep. Each of the three losses for Mississippi State was closely-contested, including two 7-inning games that were shortened due to weather.
Scores
- Game one: Texas 8, Mississippi State 7
- Game two: Texas 5, Mississippi State 3 (7)
- Game three: Texas 4, Mississippi State 1 (7)
Impact players
- DH Noah Sullivan (5-for-12, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR)
- C Ross Highfill (2-for-7, 4 RBI, 1 HR)
- RHP Evan Siary (2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB)
Big moment
It was undoubtedly a disappointing weekend for the Bulldogs to begin conference play, but there were some moments to hang on to. Junior Ross Highfill heating up and showing some power is an excellent sign for Chris Lemonis’ offense.
