A Canton man has received a prison sentence of 20 years after pleading guilty in Madison County Circuit Court to the stabbing of a gas station owner earlier this year.

46-year-old Moses Gordon officially pled guilty to the charge of aggravated assault in Madison County Circuit Court.

On February 19. 2024, Canton law enforcement officers were dispatched to the Quick and Easy gas station on Liberty Street in Canton. Upon arrival, they found Balwinder Singh, the gas station’s owner, suffering from stab wounds.

Singh told officers that Gordon had previously stolen beer from the store, prompting Singh to ask him to leave when he came back in the store. Gordon reportedly began threatening the owner as he was repeatedly told to leave. Singh followed Gordon into the parking lot, when Gordon wielded a knife and stabbed Singh in the face.

Canton Police canvased the scene and found Gordon attempting to hide by entering a truck, but he was quickly detained and discovered in possession of the bloody knife still in his pocket.

In addition to the aggravated assault charge, Gordon pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of possession of methamphetamine. The charge stemmed from an accident Gordon was involved in on Highway 51, when he was found to be in possession of 10.62 grams of meth when he was being arrested for other warrants.

Gordon also received the maximum sentence of twenty years in the drug possession case.
