A candlelight vigil will take place Monday afternoon for the Natchez teenager who lost her life during Saturday’s bout of severe weather.
Ty’Keria Rogers, 18, was a senior at Natchez High School and remembered as a “bright light” to everyone she interacted with. Rogers was the captain of the Bulldogs’ cheerleading team, as well. She passed away when a tree fell through a home on West Wood Road.
According to the Natchez-Adams School District, the vigil remembering Rogers will occur on campus at 5:30 p.m.
“Ty’Keria was a bright light in our school and community, known for her talent, energy, and uplifting spirit,” a statement from the school district reads. “Her passing leaves a deep void in our hearts. The Natchez-Adams School District extends its heartfelt condolences to Ty’Keria’s family, friends, and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.”
The school district added that grief counselors will be available to students, faculty, and staff impacted by Rogers’ passing.
Rogers was one of two people who died during Saturday’s severe weather, with the other being a 68-year-old woman in Lowndes County. 10 people across four counties were reported as injured, with two of those being inside the same home Rogers was in.
