It was a special day at Veterans Memorial Stadium as nearly 54,000 fans showed up to see Jackson State’s 28-7 homecoming victory over Alabama State, and after the game, Coach Prime had a surprise for one his players.
Running back Santee Marshall rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s win and was awarded with a full scholarship.
I’m so proud of this young man @__tido ! Santee went from being one of our cameramen to our starting running back and he earned that darn scholarship. That 38 Special! @GoJSUTigersFB @barstoolsports @YoungDolph pic.twitter.com/Aty4TTS4Rt

Head coach Deion Sanders applauded Marshall for his effort on the practice field and for his ability to overcome adversity. It wasn’t long ago that the Tiger’s leading rusher was recording practice rather than taking part in it.
After transferring from Miles College with his sights set on walking on at JSU, Marshall initially didn’t make the team and instead joined the team’s video staff. After remaining in contact with coaches, he eventually made his way onto the scout team ahead of the spring season and caught the coaching staff’s attention. Marshall has made the most of each opportunity during his JSU career. During the spring season, he appeared in one game and rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown against Alabama A&M. This fall, Marshall leads the Tigers in rushing with 318 yards on 64 carries and three touchdowns.
With Saturday’s victory, JSU improved to 5-1 and remained undefeated in SWAC play.
