JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson branch of the NAACP is calling for the resignation of Hinds County’s Election Commission chairwoman.
Connie Cochran has already taken full responsibility for voting problems in last month’s general election, saying she did not order the minimal number of ballots required by state law. As a result, ballot shortages were reported in several locations. Many voters were forced to wait hours, while some left without voting.
NAACP leaders have also asked for the resignation any other commissioner who voted with Cochran to order fewer ballots as an approach to saving costs.
At least one Hinds County Supervisor has also asked for the Attorney General’s office to investigate.
