HATTIESBURG, MISS– The University of Southern Mississippi’s Kinesiology program is re-opening the cadaver lab for doctoral students.
The lab was once part of the program, but had to be shut down in 2003 because the facilities couldn’t support the bodies that had been donated for study.
Dr. Trent Gould, associate dean of the College of Health and professor of kinesiology, instructs the course that will be the first class to re-introduce cadaver use.
“The kinesiology graduate faculty developed this course to give our doctoral students an intensive study of human morphology,” said Gould. “Students study the osteology, myology, and neurology subdisciplines of anatomy as well as acquire hands-on dissection experience with cadaveric specimens.”
USM hopes to expand the existing room to 800 square feet and renovating the space to allow study of up to four specimens, radiographic anatomy, and bones.
