ALCORN COUNTY, Miss.–The fire that burned up a Northeast Mississippi Community College bus Tuesday night was so hot it took all the metal skin off the frame, leaving the bus a twisted, melted wreck.
Nobody got hurt, said the Miss. Highway Patrol. The bus was carrying softball players from the school who were on the way back from a softball game against Southwest Tenn. Community College.
Trooper Ray Hall said the fire happened in Alcorn County on Hwy. 72, near the Tippah County line.
Just how the fire started was not clear. Hall said troopers were still investigating. One of the students who was on the bus reportedly Tweeted that a tire blew out, then the bus caught fire.
For the school, it was a sigh of relief in this statement:
All of our kids are safe and back at school. We will assess the equipment lost in the morning and have discussions with our insurance provider to determine how we will get these items replaced. But the safety of our kids is paramount and we’re happy they are back on campus.
