The burn bans continue for two Lauderdale and Smith Counties.
There has been a lack of rain recently causing The Mississippi State Forestry Commission has placed the two counties under a burn ban. There has been a significant lack of rain in the area and anyone caught burning will face consequences for doing so.
16 Mississippi counties have received burn bans in the last two months. Most of which are effective until October. Lauderdale County Fire Coordinator Allan Dover told WTOK that the sheriff’s department will be the ones enforcing the ban.
If you’re caught burning in these counties, you could face a fine over $500 and it is considered a misdemeanor on your record.
