STARKVILLE, Miss.–Victory for the Miss. State Bulldogs in the 86th battle for the Golden Egg in Starkville, but it came hard fought. The Ole Miss Rebels were defeated in overtime. The score was 17-10.
Some, including News Mississippi Sports Director Dixon Williams, predicted a win for the Dogs, mainly because of home field advantage.
What may have been the key factor, though was the last minute entry of State quarterback Dak Prescott, who had been out with an injury and was not expected to play at all.
Prescott rushed for a game-ending three-year touchdown.
The Rebels had a decent start, but were not able to complete any touchdowns on the offense. Their points came from a field goal and a blocked punt in the end zone.
The win means State is now eligible for a bowl game. They are four for five in the last five Egg Bowls.
