YAZOO COUNTY, Miss.- Two people were airlifted to UMMC after a car hit another car head-on Tuesday morning.
Mississippi Highway Patrol said, Charles Sanders, the driver of a gold Pontiac Torrent, fell asleep at the wheel, and crossed over from the westbound lane into the eastbound lane of Highway 16, hitting a blue Hyundai Sonata head-on.
Kia Wells, 25, was the driver of the Hyundai. She was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in critical condition. Sanders, 20, was taken to UMMC with a broken leg.
Two passengers in Sanders’ car, Alfreda Smith, 36, and Dasia Doby, 19, were also injured in the accident.
Smith, who was sitting in the front seat, was flown to UMMC in critical condition. Backseat passenger Doby suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital in Yazoo City.
Police are investigating the accident.
