A Brandon man has been sentenced to three decades behind bars for the murder of his wife.
Tyler Franklin Gorrell, 36, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and trafficking a controlled substance after his wife was reported deceased in January 2024. His sentence was handed down on Tuesday, with the judge ruling there would be no chance at early release.
At the time of the crimes, members of the Brandon Police Department received a call from Gorrell that there had been an accident and his wife, Carri, was dead. During the investigation, law enforcement learned Gorrell was responsible for her death. Police also discovered Gorrell was on drugs at the time, finding a large amount of LSD inside the home.
“Gorrell engaged in illegal drug use and then took the life of someone whom he vowed to love and protect,” District Attorney Bubba Bramlett said. “This unacceptable action highlights the grave dangers of drug use and its impact on decision-making. But we are thankful that the thorough investigation by the Brandon Police Department helped ensure that another selfish criminal ended up behind bars where he belongs.”
