A Brandon man has been sentenced to serve 25 years for sexual battery involving a minor child, according to Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a local hospital on October 10, 2022, reporting that a juvenile patient was there to be examined.
The hospital stated that the victim had been previously assaulted by 50-year-old Gino Giovanni Giammarco.
Officers with the sheriff’s department sent a deputy to gather information and obtain evidence about the incident while the victim was interviewed by professionals at the Parker Children’s Center.
The department then interviewed witnesses, reviewed phone records and text messages, and interviewed the defendant.
Giammarco confessed to committing several of the accused crimes before being charged with multiple sex crimes against the same victim in 2022.
Giammarco will now be required to register as a sex offender while he serves 20 years of his sentence in prison day-to-day without the possibility of parole or early release. He will then be placed on supervised probation for five years
The Brandon native also faced three additional charges prior to pleading guilty to the one count of sexual battery the morning of his trial on September 25, 2023.
“Thank you to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, the Parker Children’s Center, and the local hospital for reporting and conducting a thorough investigation that led to getting this sex offender off our streets,” Bramlett stated. “This is a great example of why mandatory reporting is necessary and helps victims. I am glad our office, with the help of others, was able to provide some justice for this victim.”
